Commercial Pilot Training Texas — Earn Your FAA Commercial Certificate at Parrish Aviation

The FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate is the legal authority to be compensated for flying. Whether your goal is a regional airline career, a charter operator, aerial survey work, agricultural aviation, or corporate flying in the DFW Metroplex, the Commercial Certificate is your professional license. Parrish Aviation Flight Academy offers Commercial Pilot training in Texas under an FAA Part 141 curriculum at both our Dallas (KRBD) and Fort Worth (T67) campuses.

Under our Part 141 program, students can meet Commercial Certificate requirements in as few as 190 total flight hours — compared to 250 hours under Part 61. For career-track pilots in Texas, that difference represents a significant reduction in both time and cost, getting you to the hiring pool faster.

The FAA requires the following minimums for a Commercial Pilot Certificate under Part 141:

• 190 total flight hours (Part 141 minimum; 250 under Part 61)
• 100 hours of PIC time
• 50 hours of cross-country PIC time
• 10 hours of instrument training (may count toward Instrument Rating)
• 10 hours in a complex aircraft — retractable gear, controllable prop
• FAA Commercial Knowledge Test — at our on-site PSI Testing Center
• FAA Commercial Practical Test (Checkride) — oral + flight test with a DPE

All prerequisites are achievable within our structured program. Students who enter our Career Pilot Program complete their Private Pilot and Instrument Rating first, then transition directly into Commercial training.

The FAA Commercial ACS requires a higher standard of aircraft control and aeronautical judgment than the Private Pilot checkride. At Parrish Aviation, we focus heavily on the maneuvers that separate commercial-level pilots from recreational ones:

• Chandelles — Maximum performance climbing turn combining coordination and pitch control.
• Lazy Eights — Symmetry, coordination, and feel — the benchmark maneuver for commercial applicants.
• Steep Spirals — Constant radius descending turn. Energy management and coordination.
• Power-Off 180° Accuracy Landing — Land within 200 feet of a target from a simulated engine failure at pattern altitude.
• Eights on Pylons — Pivotal altitude turns around ground points. Requires mastery of wind correction and coordination.
• Short and Soft Field Operations — Commercial-level precision in takeoffs and landings.

These skills are practiced in our Cessna 172 Skyhawk and Piper Twin Comanche at our campus.

Commercial pilots with instrument ratings and multi-engine endorsements are in high demand from Texas-based operators. The path from Parrish Aviation's Commercial program to a first officer seat has never been more direct, especially for students who also complete our Career Pilot Program through the CFI stage.

After Commercial certification, many Parrish Aviation students add a Multi-Engine Rating (Piper Twin Comanche) to further expand their employment eligibility — and those who want to build hours quickly pursue the CFI/CFII certificate and join our instructor team.
